Alcoa Closes Rockdale Operations, Announces Employee Layoffs

Despite the spin and PR, it's clear that this decision has more to do with Alcoa's corporate bottom line than it does with shielding a community that's been a faithful partner for better than half a century.

As part of this community, our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors who will be affected by this decision ... It's never a good time to lose a job but, with the ongoing turmoil in our national economy and Christmas approaching, this is a particularly bad time.

Alcoa's decision to shutter its Rockdale operations will hurt everyone in Milam County. Our local economy depends heavily on the jobs there and we are deeply concerned about the impact this will have here in our own backyard.
